Fun Facts about BryanLGH College of Health Sciences

  • “Stan” is a Human Patient Simulator (HPS) and was purchased in 2003 for $218,000. Stan has a gas analyzer that allows him to respond to oxygen as a real person would. His pupils also constrict and dilate in response to light. Stan was #263 off the assembly line and is the only HPS in Nebraska.
  • “Bryan,” an Emergency Care Simulator (ECS) was purchased in January 2007 and offers a portable option for learning with simulation. He occasionally will even attend class!
  • “LG,” or “little guy,” was #101 off the assembly line and purchased in January 2007 for roughly $42,000. LG provides numerous opportunities for students to learn how to care for ill children. Only 100 other places in the World have a pediatric simulator like LG!
  • METI Human Patient Simulators are in Iraq and Afghanistan and were used extensively to train the military.
  • There were 15 members of the first graduating diploma class in 1929.
  • 1926 Entrance Requirement for the William Jennings Bryan School of Nursing: “Preferably 20 to 30 years of age, single, in sound health, of good moral character, interest in the nursing profession, ability to make social adjustments, an American citizen, a certificate from an accredited high school, a self-respecting, earnest Christian women, must be honest, trustworthy, punctual, quiet, orderly, neat and obedient to all rules.”
  • We have a 100% placement rating for graduates in all of our programs (usually within around three months of graduation).
  • There are body parts located in the library.
  • Wednesday is “Make Your Own Sundae Day” in the Plaza Café.
  • Our faculty members present at conferences all over the world—and recently some of our students joined faculty members to give a join presentation at a conference in San Francisco.
  • All of our classrooms are “smart,” with computerized podiums that allow classes to view written documents, Web sites and video together.
